This resource pack is aimed at secondary school students, and uses over 20 resources telling stories of Essex people and places from the Essex Record Office collections.
The pack includes stories of soldiers, nurses, women factory workers, Zeppelins over Essex, food shortages, and family life when fathers did not make it home.
It includes images of the sources along with background notes and suggestions on how they might be used in History, English or other classes.
The pack consists of a PowerPoint presentation and teachers’ notes, which can be downloaded by clicking on the links below.
The resource pack has been produced by the Essex Record Office as part of Now the Last Poppy has Fallen, a project investigating the First World War in Essex, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
You can use the pack in isolation or combine it with a visit to ERO or a workshop in your school. Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org if this is something you would like to discuss.
We hope that you and your students enjoy using the resource pack to explore some fascinating First World War stories.
